Laughing With Us, Not At Us

A few years ago, comedian and motivational speaker Derrick Tennant had an idea.

What if adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities could learn stand-up comedy, take the stage at a real comedy club, and hear an audience laughing right along with them?

Not laughing at them.

Laughing with them.

That idea became Jokability™.

Created and taught by Julie's brother, Derrick Tennant, Jokability is an eight-week comedy program that helps adults with special needs develop confidence, communication skills, public speaking abilities, and yes... some pretty great jokes.

Participants learn how to write material, tell stories, work a microphone, connect with an audience, and discover something many never knew they had:

A voice worth hearing.

The results go far beyond comedy.

Students improve eye contact, build confidence, strengthen social skills, and experience the joy of accomplishing something they never thought possible.

At the end of the program, they take the stage at Zanies Comedy Club in Nashville—widely considered one of the premier comedy clubs in America—for a live stand-up comedy showcase that leaves audiences laughing, cheering, and often wiping away a few tears.
